What is 4-H Camp and What Does it Offer?

4-H Camp offers youth the opportunity to develop leadership skills, citizenship awareness, responsibility, and self-esteem in a group living situation away from home.

4-H Camp offers a variety of activities for each camper such as: swimming, nature, water activities, crafts, and much more. We also have great programs and special events to keep you busy in the afternoon and evening.

Where is 4-H Camp Kelleys Island?

4-H Camp Kelleys Island is located on Kelleys Island in Lake Erie. Campers make the trip across the lake on a ferry boat.

Campers live in one of 13 rustic cabins with approximately 10 campers and 2 trained counselors. A modern kitchen and central dining hall provide for nutritious meals. The beach offers a unique swimming area watched by a certified lifeguard at all times. Other facilities include the Nature Center, Craft Hall, Campfire Circle, Recreation Hall, and Sports Fields.

Who Can Come To Camp?

Any youth that is at least 8 years old (as of 1/1/08) AND in the third grade through youth age 12 (as of 1/1/08).  Camp registration will be taken on a first come first serve basis until camp is full.

How Much Will It Cost?

The cost for camp is $130.  If more than one child in the family is attending, the fee for additional family members is $125 each.  A $10 late registration fee will be charged for registration forms received after the registration deadline of May 23rd.  Postdated checks will not be accepted.  Checks should be made payable to OSU Extension.

Scholarship Information

Camp scholarships are available.  Simply write an essay explaining why a scholarship is needed.   Anyone attending camp can apply for a scholarship, however those indicating financial need will be given priority when scholarships are awarded.  Please mark to the attention of Mary Beth Albright and submit it to the Extension Office by May 23rd.   If you are applying for a scholarship, check “scholarship” on the registration form and submit it without payment.  After scholarships are awarded, you can pay the balance due.

Health And Safety

Assuring the health and safety of each camper is important to us at 4-H Camp. There is a registered nurse present throughout camp. Campers are covered by a health and safety policy while involved in camp programs.  This policy is secondary coverage only.  Your insurance is the primary coverage.

Activities are supervised by responsible adults and counselors who are trained in camping programs. Rules and regulations have been developed and will be enforced for the health and safety of all individuals.

When And How Do I Register For Camp?

Registration will be due in the Extension Office by Friday, May 23rd, 2008.  Campers will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until camp is full. Early registration is encouraged so that you may be assured enrollment in the super sessions in which you would like to participate during camp.  Super sessions will fill-up fast!
