On April 12, 2008, Bowling Green State University held it's 3rd Annual Grand Prix of BGSU. These peppy little go-carts are powered by 5.5 hp Honda Engines that run on E85. The carts are constructed and raced by the students. The race, which was 12 miles long, consisted of 60 laps around a 1/5 mile track located in one of the parking lots of BGSU. The go-carts topped out at speeds close to 40 mph and the fastest qualifying lap time was a mere 22.15 seconds. The cold and wet weather did manage to caused a few spin outs including the leader of lap 58, Matt Fager; a senior construction management major; who slid enough to loose control coming out of "Dead Man's Curve" on the back side of the track. Matt did manage to get the go-cart back under control to finish 3rd. Despite the weather, about 50 people turned out to watch the race. Not too shabby for having fun and rasing awareness about alternative and cleaner energy! Click here to see some pictures of that race.
